The Jordan Times | Muslims in Britain

In today's issue of The Jordan Times an intersting article by Lord Treisman was published... the article titled " Muslims in Britian -'key part of our moderen, multicultural society'"...
[[The truth is that Muslims have been an integral part of Britain and of our way of life, at home and abroad, for centuries. ]]

[[Over the last two centuries, Muslims have settled in the UK in increasing numbers, to the point where there are an estimated two million Muslims in the UK today. The first purpose-built mosque opened in Woking in 1889 and in 1940 the government donated £100,000 towards the building of the first mosque in London — now the Regents Park Mosque — in recognition of the bravery and courage of Muslim soldiers who fought and died for Britain in World War I. Today there are over 1,200 mosques across the UK and Islam is by far the second biggest religion in the UK.]]

[[The world is becoming a smaller place and peoples of different cultures and religions are having to learn to live together as never before. Of course this will result in tension from time to time, but this also presents tremendous opportunities. We have a lot to learn from each other and this exchange of new ideas creates the dynamism which pushes us forward intellectually, scientifically and culturally.]]
